I think it’s about choice. How much choice did the coal miner in the 1940’s have over their working conditions in their industry? What other options were available to them? Did they have a choice to not get conscripted into the War?

We have the ability to choose how, where, and when we work more than ever. Given that we could tone down the pace and still succeed, why are we still burning ourselves out? We don’t have to. We can go and mine our own coal in a more relaxed, wholesome way elsewhere.
